Our Purpose:

In 2009, Classis Grand Rapids East went through a Re-Visioning process. Out of this process came a vision for a Classis Prayer & Worship team. We are expected to work toward prayer and unity with specific expected results and responsibilities.

Monthly Prayer

We lead monthly prayer meetings for the churches of Classis Grand Rapids East on the first Thursday of each month. These prayer meetings are held at noon and 7:00 pm at one of the classis church on a rotating basis. For a complete schedule of these prayer times click here. $50 Grant to Each Church to be used to promote Prayer

We are working toward making $50 grants available to Classis Churches to promote prayer in their midst. The guidelines will likely be as follows: Churches will be invited to apply for this grant. As long as their application meets the guidelines, it will be accepted. Potential ways this grant can be used are: Resources for a prayer room, books on prayer for small group, supplies for a prayer service or prayer stations, or for the pastor or prayer leaders to attend a local retreat center for a time of prayer. An online application will be set up. This link will be posted here on this website and emailed to classis churches. If the grant is accepted the money will be sent up front as worked out with the classis treasurer. If two applications are receive from one church the applicants will be notified that the church has to choose one project for which to apply. The deadline for these grants will be sometime toward the end of the year, likely in September.

List for Prayer Request for Classis Churches.

Per our original description of responsibilities and expected results, we are working toward creating an email list of members of Classis Grand Rapids East churches who would like to pray for the prayer requests related to the needs of our churches and classis.

We will actively work on developing this list over the summer and you are welcome to sign-up here too. This is a more details list of the types of prayer requests that would be sent:

a. Ministry needs of Classis Churches – these requests would come from the reports given at Classis as well as our monthly prayer times at each church.
b. Emergency needs of local churches as requested by that church in special times of need. This would be major crisis situations.
c. The ministry needs of Classis, both ongoing and at special times.
d. Possibly, this would include annual prayer information for Synod.
e. These prayer emails would not include prayer information about members of local churches.
